Why?

Yugen is raw, unpasteurised kombucha, full of billions of gut-friendly cultures thanks to the SCOBY (a natural culture that helps it ferment).

To keep its flavour and carbonation balanced, it must stay refrigerated.

Leave it out too long and it can over-ferment and even burst.

Is Yugen pasteurised?

Nope. We keep it raw and alive to preserve the natural benefits of kombucha. Just make sure to keep it cold!

Why must Yugen always be kept refrigerated?

Because it’s unpasteurised and alive. When left out of the fridge, the kombucha can continue fermenting, leading to more CO₂ and alcohol. That could change the flavour or even make your bottle overflow.

My bottle or can exploded. What happened?

Our kombucha contains live cultures and will start fermenting again if kept out of the refrigerator too long. Continued fermentation produces excessive carbon dioxide in the bottle which causes the kombucha to rapidly overflow upon opening.
