MANGO TURMERIC
Charles Degeyter is self-taught, does not shy away from any technique and flirts effortlessly with different cultures, eras and customs
Despite his young age (25), he has followed a path that is just as surprising as his oeuvre. He has designed posters for Queens of the Stone Age, Nine Inch Nails and Weezer, among others. The bold combinations on these screen-printed posters bear witness to a distinctive visual approach that can be found in his artistic work today. He recently exhibited drawings at the Tatjana Pieters gallery and created an all-encompassing installation for the Verbeke Foundation.

The story behind 'Black Panther'
“That animal has always held a special meaning for me,” Charles explained. “The black panther is incredibly powerful, but at the same time it moves with this effortless grace. It embodies that perfect balance between light and darkness. And something most people don’t realise is that black panthers aren’t a separate species. They’re actually a melanistic variant of certain Panthera cats. That makes them extremely rare, and that rarity combined with their striking colour gives them this almost mystical presence. So for me, it felt like the perfect subject for a Yugen label.”
