PINEAPPLE CHILI

Peter Goes is a master of bold, whimsical illustrations full of hidden gems

Peter Goes works as a freelance illustrator. His work boasts tightly composed images and a recognizable style: the background to his illustrations is always dominated by one main colour, while the cartoonesque figures and objects are rendered in black and supplemented with a single contrasting shade. His illustrations – many of which are full-page – are stylistic gems and often packed with funny details. Goes has a great eye for detail: there’s always something new to discover in his dynamic work. Peter Goes' critically acclaimed picture books have been translated into twenty-five languages.

The story behind 'Animals upon Animals'

That one was pure fun to create,” Peter said. “It started with the idea of turning the Pineapple Chili flavour into a kind of fantasy world, full of life and movement. Before I knew it, there were animals everywhere, fourteen in total. I love working with layers, playing with positive and negative space, letting shapes and stories emerge as you look closer. For me, drawing is a way to find calm, to lose myself in the details. And I hope people who see this design do the same. Take a moment, dive in, and keep discovering new things the longer they look.”
